Nicol -; Jeselsohn -. Fine, on a buckled flan with some striking weakness. Of the highest rarity, apparently unpublished. Nicol records no half-dirhams for al-Mu'izz from the mint of Filastin. The unit of the date on this specimen is illegible, but was probably '9' for AH 359, this being the first year in which Fatimid coins were struck at the mint. The significance of the 'S' symbol in the centres is not clear.

Extremely rare, apparently only the second published dinar of this mint and date.

Fatimids. al-Zahir li-I'zaz Din Allah. AH 411-427 / AD 1021-1036. AV Dinar (21.2mm, 4.20 g, 10h). Halab mint. Dated AH 415 (AD 1024/5). Nicol 1392. Good Fine, obverse flan fault, surface marks and scuffs. Excessively rare, apparently the second published example. Halab is an extremely rare mint for al-Zahir. The only coin of this mint and date recorded by Nicol, described as a half-dinar but with similar legends to the piece offered here, was offered at auction in 1982.

Dated AH 451, month of Muharram (February, AD 1059). Reverse field: letter ع at 12h in plain band between field and margin. Nicol; 2095; Jafar, Seljuq F.MS.451E; Album 719B. Superb EF with fully lustrous fields. Extremely rare.
