Fatimids. al-Hakim bi-Amr Allah. AH 386-411 / AD 996-1021. AV Dinar (20.4mm, 4.06 g, 10h). Al-Mahdiya mint. Dated AH 387 (AD 997). Four-line legends in the centres and double marginal legends on both sides. Nicol 1208 = Qatar 2496 (same dies). Edge shaved, minor marks. Near VF. Very rare, only one specimen recorded by Nicol. This very rare type was only struck at the very start of al-Hakim's reign and was discontinued after AH 387. It bears additional verses from the Qur'an which translate as 'The laws of your Lord are perfect in truth and justice and his laws cannot be changed; he is all-seeing and all knowing' (6:115) and 'Are they so jealous of others for what God in His generosity has given to them? So We had given the Book and the Law to Abraham's family, and given them great power' (4:54).
Fatimids. al-Hakim bi-Amr Allah. AH 386-411 / AD 996-1021. AR Half-Dirham (17.8mm, 1.27 g, 12h). Al-Mahdiya mint. Dated AH 387 (AD 997). Double marginal legends (partly off-flan) on both sides. Nicol 1273. Some weak striking. VF. Extremely rare, only two specimens recorded by Nicol.

Nicol 1135 (dated AH 392); cf Baldwin's Islamic Coin Auction 20 (8 May 2012), lot 396. Slightly bent. VF. Excessively rare. Nicol records quarter-dinars from al-Mansuriya dated AH 393, but lists no full dinars with this mint and date. The specimen offered in Baldwin's Islamic Coin Auction 20 is from different dies and markedly different in style, and the accompanying image is not sufficiently clear to confirm the attribution securely.
Fatimids. al-Hakim bi-Amr Allah. AH 386-411 / AD 996-1021. AV Dinar (20.6mm, 4.02 g, 6h). Al-Mahdiya mint. Dated AH 390 (AD 999/1000). Cf. Nicol 1212 (dated AH 389). Edge shaved, some surface marks. Near VF. Of the highest rarity, apparently unpublished. While Nicol records quarter-dinars of al-Mahdiya for AH 390 (Nicol 1213), this appears to be the first recorded full dinar of this mint and date.
Fatimids. al-Hakim bi-Amr Allah. AH 386-411 / AD 996-1021. AV Dinar (20.5mm, 4.03 g, 1h). Al-Mahdiya mint. Dated AH 391 (AD 1000/1). Nicol 1214. Good Fine. Extremely rare, only one specimen recorded by Nicol.

Extremely rare, apparently only the second published dinar of this mint and date.

Fatimids. al-Zahir li-I'zaz Din Allah. AH 411-427 / AD 1021-1036. AV Dinar (21.7mm, 3.86 g, 10h). Tabariya mint. Dated AH 424 (AD 1032/3). Letter ط in centres on both sides. Nicol 1487. Edge shaved. Good Fine. Extremely rare, only three specimens recorded by Nicol. The letter in the central circle on both sides of this rare and interesting type is the first letter of Tabariya. Similar dinars are also known from the mints of Sur and Tarablus, the latter denoted by the final 's' of the mint-name. 'Tabariya' and 'Tarablus' begin with the same letter, and the choice of 's' for Tarablus was presumably intended to avoid any confusion between the two.
