Qaramita (Qarmatids). al-Hasan b. Ahmad. fl. AH 360-365 / AD 971-976. AV Dinar (22.1mm, 4.06 g, 8h). Filastin mint. Dated AH 361 (AD 971/2). Obverse field: la ilaha illa / Allah wahdahu / la sharik lahu / al-Sadat al-ru'asa / Reverse field: lillah / Muhammad rasul Allah / salla Allah 'alayhi / wa 'ala alihi / al-Muti' lillah / al-Hasan b. Ahmad. Vardanyan, Sectarians 11; Artuk 891; Album 684. Small scuff in obverse margin at 2h. Near EF. Very rare, especially in this condition. The Qarmatids were a radical Isma'ili group, originally based in Arabia, who briefly expanded into Syria and Palestine after the fall of the Ikhshidids. While opposed to the 'Abbasids, they nevertheless cited the 'Abbasid caliph on their coins, along with their own ruling council of six or seven elders known as the Chief Sayyids, named on the obverse of this coin as al-Sadat al-ru'asa.
Fatimids. al-Mu'izz li-Din Allah. AH 341-365 / AD 953-975. AV Dinar (22.5mm, 4.15 g, 11h). Filastin mint. Dated AH 363 (AD 973/4). Nicol 337. Slightly buckled flan, hence some weakness on both sides. Good VF. Rare. This is a rare early Fatimid dinar from Filastin, which came under Fatimid control in AH 359.

Fatimids. al-Mu'izz li-Din Allah. AH 341-365 / AD 953-975. AR Narrow Dirham (19.7mm, 2.20 g, 12h). Al-Mansuriya mint. Dated AH 343 (AD 954/5). Cf. Stephen Album Rare Coins 37 (11 June 2020), lot 383; cf. Nicol 464 (date missing). Dark patina. VF. Very rare. This piece has been struck from dies similar to those used for normal half-dirhams, but the flan is markedly thicker and the coin itself is heavier. These so-called 'narrow dirhams' are now known for the mints of Barqa, Misr and al-Mahdiya as well as al-Mansuriya. All are rare.
Fatimids. al-'Aziz billah. AH 365-386 / AD 975-996. AR Dirham (25mm, 2.37 g, 3h). Dimashq mint. Dated AH 368 (AD 978/9). Cf. Nicol 558 (dated AH 370). Some weak striking, edge ragged. Fine. Of the highest rarity, apparently unpublished. While gold dinars from Damascus are known for the year AH 368 (Nicol 549), this appears to be an unrecorded date for silver dirhams.
Fatimids. al-'Aziz billah. AH 365-386 / AD 975-996. AV Dinar (22.3mm, 4.24 g, 7h). Sur mint. Dated AH 376 (AD 986/7). Cf. Nicol 609 (dated AH 368) . Near VF. Of the highest rarity, apparently unpublished. Nicol records no dinars from the mint of Sur between AH 368 and AH 381.
Fatimids. al-'Aziz billah. AH 365-386 / AD 975-996. AR Dirham (23.5mm, 2.73 g, 10h). Sur mint. Dated AH 368 (AD 978/9). Cf. Nicol 612 (dated AH 369). Softly struck on a slightly curved flan with some resulting weakness. VF. Of the highest rarity, apparently unpublished.
Fatimids. al-'Aziz billah. AH 365-386 / AD 975-996. AV Dinar (20.4mm, 4.15 g, 3h). Tabariya mint. Dated AH 371 (AD 981/2). Cf. Nicol 623 (a dirham of this mint and date). Traces of mounting. VF. Of the highest rarity, apparently an unpublished date for dinars from this rare mint. While Nicol records silver dirhams from Tabariya dated AH 371, he knew of no gold coins for the years between AH 369-375.
Fatimids. al-'Aziz billah. AH 365-386 / AD 975-996. AV Dinar (19.5mm, 3.89 g, 5h). Atarablus mint. Dated AH 380 (AD 990/1). Pellet above mi'at in mint/date formula. Nicol -; cf. Stephen Album Rare Coins 40 (13 May 2021), lot 358. Good Fine. Excessively rare, apparently the second published example of this mint and date.
Fatimids. al-'Aziz billah. AH 365-386 / AD 975-996. AV Dinar (20mm, 4.16 g, 12h). Atarablus mint. Dated AH 386 (AD 996). Unit of date written as ﺳﺘﻪ (the feminine form). Cf. Nicol 646 = Kazan 518 (mint-name reportedly engraved as 'Tarablus', without the initial alif visible on the present coin). Die-rust on reverse. Good Fine. Excessively rare.
Fatimids. al-'Aziz billah. AH 365-386 / AD 975-996. AV Dinar (19.1mm, 4.09 g, 5h). Al-Mahdiya mint. Dated AH 372 (AD 982/3). Obverse outer margin begins: bismillah duriba hadha al-dirham.... Cf. Nicol 804 (standard dinars of this mint and date). Buckled flan, surface marks. Fine. Extremely rare. As well as a plentiful issue of gold dinars, silver half-dirhams were also struck at al-Mahdiya during this year (Nicol 830). The use of 'dinar' or 'dirham' in the obverse margin is the only difference between the legends on the two denominations.
