The cataloguer of the specimen sold at Baldwin's in 2009 suggested that these medallic dinars with broad margins may have been struck to commemorate the beginning of Mukramid rule in Oman.

Broome 379 ('unique') = Artuk 1141 (same obverse die); Album A1231. Near VF. Extremely rare. This coin was struck in the year following the execution of al-Musta'sim, the last of the 'Abbasids. It was issued in the name of Kay Ka'us II alone, without the name of any caliph.

Ottoman Empire. Selim II. AH 974-982 / AD 1566-1574. Cylindrical iron upper (trussel) die (27.1mm, 131.22 g). Without mint-name. Undated. Ruler apparently named as Selim Shah bin Sulayman Shah; 'azz nasruhu in bottom line but without mint or date. Some corrosion (partly obscuring the first two lines). Near VF. Extremely rare. This appears to be a die made for striking silver dirhams. The impression is of good style, but it is not clear whether it is an official production or a forger's die used to make contemporary counterfeits
Ottoman Empire. Selim II. AH 974-982 / AD 1566-1574. Iron cuboid counterfeiter's die (27mm, 140.16 g). Three of the six faces engraved as reverse dies for silver dirhams from Baghdad, Erzurum (?) and an uncertain mint (this corroded). Some corrosion. Near VF. Extremely rare. The sides opposite each of the three engraved faces of this cuboid die are all blank, so that no engraved side would be damaged when striking a coin. It is remarkable that the counterfeiter should have prepared a die naming mints which are more than six hundred miles apart. Enough remains of the third face to show that it was engraved for a similar type of dirham, but the mint name cannot be read with certainty
