Helmeted head of Athena left; trident behind neck / Pegasos flying left; star above. Pegasi 26 (same dies as illustration); BAR Issue 32; HGC 2, 1408. Toned, patches of find patina, rough surfaces, numerous cleaning marks and scratches, two digs on obverse, edge filed and marked. VF. Lot includes a David Sear certificate of authenticity.The small M between the grape bunches is quite unusual element added to the standard design, and is not mentioned in any of the references. See CNG E-542, lots 54 and 55, for a similar instance of marked obverse dies. One wonders whether the control is actually the mark or signature of an engraver?
