ANGLO-SAXON, Kings of All England. Edward the Confessor. 1042-1066. AR Penny (17mm, 1.01 g, 7h). Radiate/Small Cross (BMC i, Hild. A). London mint; Leofric, moneyer. Struck circa 1044-1046. Radiate and draped bust left / + LEOCRIC ON LLV(?), short cross pattée. Freeman 552; SCBI 54 (Stockholm), 520 (same obv. die); North 816; SCBC 1173. Toned, wavy flan. VF.
From the Sidney W. Harl & Kenneth W. Harl Collection, purchased from J. Linzalone, April 1998.
The mint name on this coin is somewhat blundered. The collector read it as HVNT, but a similar coin published in SCBI 54, from the same obverse die, is read as LLV for London.
