The 1929 Exhibition was the final knock for the modernization, especially urban planning, of Barcelona. On May 19 of that year, the King, Alfonso XIII and Queen Victoria Eugenia, after the speech of General Primo de Rivera who was still at the head of the governing military directory, declared the International Exhibition to be inaugurated. The Montjuic mountain was the main protagonist on this occasion, in the same way that the Parc de la Ciutadella was in the previous one in 1888.
