Rev: Escudo crowned and quartered with five stars, tree, rampant lion on the left and a sailing ship, in the center oval escusón quartered with lions and castles, behind an extended eagle holding a ribbon that surrounds the shield with the inscription: BENIGNO THE FERTILE CLIMATE THE SOIL COMMODUS THE SITE AND LOYAL THE PEOPLE, around legend: IN ITS PROCLAMATION OF THE VERY LOYAL VILLA DE Very Fine YEAR OF 1790. After declaring war against England in 1796 and for which an attack on the Port of Veracruz was feared, the viceroy of New Spain, the Marquis of Branciforte, decided that Orizaba would temporarily become the capital of the Viceroyalty. Orizaba, became the capital, then, between 1797 and 1798, another privilege that joins the one that Carlos III granted it a few years before in January 1774 when giving it the category of town.
