Esta rara y escasa estátera nos muestra en anverso a Mitrídates VI ( (132 a.C. - 63 a.C.), llamado Eupator Dionysius, también conocido como Mitrídates el Grande, rey del Ponto desde el 120 a.C. hasta su muerte, en 63 a.C., en Asia Menor. Mitrídates VI fue uno de los enemigos más formidables y exitosos que tuvo Roma. Luchó consecutivamente, con tres de los más grandes generales de finales de la República: Sila, Lúculo y Pompeyo. La cabeza diademada a derecha con el cabello alborotado y libre. Interesante reverso lleno de mensajes; en el centro ciervo pastando a izquierda que probablemente representa el centro cívico de Éfeso, marca de la ceca de Pérgamo, que forma parte del nuevo reino del Ponto, simbolizado por la estrella y la media luna que se encuentran delante del cérvido; monograma (¿fecha?) a la derecha; encima atributos y nombre del monarca: BAΣIΛEΩΣ MIΘPAΔATOY EYΠATOPOΣ y monograma en el exergo; todo dentro de orla dionisiaca de hiedra y fruta. Sin duda una pieza llena de historia que hará las delicias de los coleccionistas del mundo griego.

This rare and scarce stater shows us Mithridates VI (132 BC - 63 BC) on the obverse, who was called Eupator Dionysius, also known as Mithridates the Great, King of Pontus from 120 BC until his death, in 63 BC, in Asia Minor. Mithridates VI was one of the most formidable and successful enemies that Rome had. He fought consecutively, with three of the greatest generals at the end of the Republic: Sila, Lucullus and Pompey. Diademed head right, with the hair disheveled and free. Interesting reverse full of messages; in the center, deer grazing left, that probably represents the civic center of Ephesus, mark of the mint of Pergamum, which is part of the new kingdom of Pontus, symbolized by the star and the half moon placed in front of the deer; monogram (date?) on the right; above, attributes and name of the monarch: BAΣIΛEΩΣ MIΘPAΔATOY EYΠATOPOΣ and monogram in the exergue; all inside a dionysius border of ivy and fruit.
