Augusto y sus cognomen Nacido bajo el nombre de Cayo Octavio Turino (Gaius Octavius Turinus), fue adoptado por su tío abuelo Julio César en su testamento, en el año 44 a.C. Desde ese instante hasta 27 a.C. pasó a llamarse Cayo Julio César Octaviano (Gaius Iulius Caesar Octavianus). En 27 a.C. el Senado le concedió usar el cognomen de «Augusto», y por consiguiente se convirtió en Emperador César Augusto (Imperator Caesar Augustus). A causa de los varios nombres que ostentó, es común llamarlo «Octavio» al referirse a los sucesos acontecidos entre 63 y 44 a.C., «Octaviano» de 44 hasta 27 a.C. y «Augusto» después de 27 a.C. Presentamos un temprano y precioso ejemplar, de centrado magnífico y excelente retrato, que hace referencia al primer cognomen de Augusto: Turino, al mostrar en su reverso un toro embistiendo.

Augustus and his cognomen. Born under the name of Gaius Octavius Turinus, he was adpopted by his great uncle Julius Ceasar in his testament, in 44 b.C. Since that moment until 27 b.C. he was named Gaius Iulius Caesar Octavianus. In 27 b.C. the Senate granted him to use the cognomen "Augustus", therefore he turned in Imperator Caesar Augustus. Due to the several names he had, it´s common to call him "Octavius" when referring to the events occured between the years 63-44 b.C., "Octavianus" from 44 to 27 b.C. and "Augustus" after 27 b.C. We present an early and precius specimen, with a magnificent centre and excellent portrait, that refers to the 1st cognomen of Augustus: Turino, as it shows a charging bull on the reverse.
