Umayyad Caliphate. PB Seal (18.4mm, 7.51 g, 11h). Lillah stamped in a circular punch on both sides (hence possibly once used to seal a bag of alms?). Attractive tan patina. Good VF. Ex Morton & Eden (24 June 2021), lot 71.
Umayyad Caliphate. PB Seal (26.5mm, 34.19 g, 0h). In four lines: Sukhra / Filastin / al-sud [...] [...] / billah ?. Ibrahim, T. 'Umayyad Palestine: A lead seal of statute labor', Manquso 11 (2020). Good Fine. Extremely rare. The first two words on this seal were read by Ibrahim as sukhra Filastin, meaning 'statute labor in Filastin.' His proposal of al-sud, 'for [building] a dam', is ingenious and plausible; the suggestion that the final word is something like 'Ramallah', split between the third and fourth lines, seems more difficult and the final line on the present piece appears to read simply billah.
