GAUL, Northeast. Remi. Circa 100-50 BC. Potin Unit (21mm, 4.37 g, 7h). Figure running right, holding torque and spear / Beast right; uncertain ornaments above and below. Depeyrot, NC VII, 29; D&T 155; CCCBM III 483–506; de la Tour 8124. Blue-green patina. Fine. Sydenham and Crawford surmised that this reverse imitated the "elephant trampling serpent" denarius type of Julius Caesar, struck circa 49-48 BC but Haselgrove has studied the archaelogical context of the type, and the evidence suggests that the circulation peaked significantly earlier, circa 100-50 BC.
IBERIA, Kastilo. Early 2nd century BC. Æ As (34mm, 32.47 g, 7h). Diademed male head right / Griffin standing right, paw raised; star and monogram (Iberian KO) to right. ACIP 2113. IBERIA, Malaka. 2nd century BC. Æ Unit (22.5mm, 9.16 g, 11h). Head of Hephaistos right, wearing conical cap; ethnic and tongs to left; all within urel wreath / Radiate and draped facing bust of Helios. ACIP 786. Brown surfaces, a little off center, area of weak strike, edge split. VF. Ex Pegasi XXV (8 November 2011), lot 5.
ETRURIA, Luca(?). Circa 325-300 BC. AR Fraction (6mm, 0.15 g). Bare head of bearded male right; dotted border / Blank. Unpublished, but cf. EC Series 6 for similar. Find patina. Near VF. Extremely rare.
CALABRIA, Tarentum. Circa 290-281 BC. AR Nomos (22mm, 7.83 g, 10h). Warrior, holding shield and two spears, preparing to cast a third, on horse rearing right; ΣI below / Phalanthos, holding distaff, riding dolphin left; to left, eagle standing left; ΦI below. Fischer-Bossert Group 78a, 1066 (V3403/R821); Vlasto 579 (same rev. die); HN Italy 933. Toned, slightly soft strike on reverse. Good VF. Struck from fresh dies. CALABRIA, Tarentum. Circa 290-281 BC. AR Nomos (20.5mm, 7.75 g, 10h). Warrior, holding shield and two spears, preparing to cast a third, on horseback right; ΦIΛI below / Phalanthos, holding dolphin and distaff, riding dolphin left; ΦI to left, ivy leaf to right, waves below. Fischer-Bossert Group 79, 1086 (V409/R837); Vlasto 589–90 (same dies); HN Italy 934; SNG München 645 (same dies). Scratches, trace deposits, shallow test cut on obverse, scrape on reverse. Good VF.
LUCANIA, Metapontion. Circa 340-330 BC. AR Nomos (21.5mm, 7.69 g, 7h). Helmeted head of Leukippos right; to left, lion head right; monogram below chin / Grain ear with leaf to left; club above leaf, [A]MI below. Johnston Class B, 2; HN Italy 1575. Porous, a little off center on obverse, minor flan flaws on reverse. Near VF.
