Celtic Categoria
GAUL, Northeast. Remi. Circa 100-50 BC. Potin Unit (21mm, 4.37 g, 7h). Figure running right, holding torque and spear / Beast right; uncertain ornaments above and below. Depeyrot, NC VII, 29; D&T 155; CCCBM III 483–506; De la Tour 8124. Blue-green patina. Fine. Sydenham and Crawford surmised that this reverse imitated the "elephant trampling serpent" denarius type of Julius Caesar, struck circa 49-48 BC but Haselgrove has studied the archaelogical context of the type, and the evidence suggests that the circulation peaked significantly earlier, circa 100-50 BC.
