Acrostolium. Au. 7,88 g. Muy rara. EBC. Est...10000,00. C. - Filipos, 42 a.

ENGLISH: Casio. C. Cassius Longinus. Aureus. 43-42 BC. Asia Minor. (Cal-67). (Babelon Cassia-20). (Sydenham-1311). Obv.: C CASSI IMP. Laureated head of Libertas right. Rev.: M SERVILLIVS LEG. Acrostolium. Au. 7.88 g. Very rare. EBC. Precious and scarce Aureus of Caivs Cassivs Longinvs that commemorates the naval victory and later conquest of the island of Rhodes. This Aureus was coined in some itinerant mint, between 43 - 42 BC .; on the reverse we see an aplustre or acrostolium, boat ornament that symbolized the naval victory. The flowers at the edge of the ornament suggest Rhodes, because the rose was the symbol of that island for many centuries. On the obverse: Laureated head of Libertas right. Recall that Casio (Rome, 87 or 86 BC - Philippi, 42 BC) is considered, together with his friend and brother-in-law Brutus, responsible for the attack on Julius Caesar in the idus of March in 44 BC. After the battle of Farsalia, he surrendered to Caesar and was pardoned by the dictator, and designated praetor in 44 BC, but later he will betray him again, being one of the main instigators of his murder. He flees to Greece and three years later commits suicide, after the defeat of Philipus.

Sexto Pompeyo. Denario. 45-44 a.C. Hispania. (Ffc-21). (Cal-1156). (Craw-477/1a).

ENGLISH: Sextus Pompey. Denarius. 45-44 BC. Hispania (Ffc-21). (Cal-1156). (Craw-477 / 1a). Obv.: Bare head of Pompey the Great right, (SEX MA) GNVS IMP (B) around. Rev.: Pietas standing left, holding scepter and laurel branch, PIETAS behind. Ag. 3.70 g. Minor oxidations. Rare. MBC+/EBC-. Very rare and scarce denarius that Sextus Pompey, son of Pompey the Great, ordered to mint in Hispania to finance the supply of his troops. Like almost all emergency coinage, the quality is rough. It is worth noting the beauty of this denarius that allows us to appreciate the figures of both faces with total precision and sharpness; regarding the legends we can recognize, on the obverse, MAGNVS at the front and IMP behind. On the reverse, PIETAS is read clearly. On the obverse, head belongs to Pompey the Great and stands out his bareness and thinness. On the reverse, Pietas advancing left, very schematized, wearing striped clothing and carrying palm in the right hand and cross scepter in the left. The presence of Pietas in these pieces can respond to two versions; some authors think that as Sextus Pompey did not have powers granted by the people and the Senate, he trusted Pietas for his battles in Spain. Others state that the figure of Pietas is due to the fact that it welcomed the outlawed citizens after the battle of Philippus.

Sexto Pompeyo. Denario. 45-44 a.C. Hispania. (Ffc-24). (Cal-1159). (Craw-477/1b). Anv.: Cabeza descubierta a derecha, alrededor SEX MAGN IMP SAL .

ENGLISH: Sextus Pompey. Denarius. 45-44 BC. Hispania (Ffc-24). (Cal-1159). (Craw-477 / 1b). Obv.: Uncovered head right, SEX MAGN IMP SAL around. Rev.: Pietas standing to left, with scepter and laurel branch; behind, PIETAS. Ag. 3.78 g. Surperficial erosions, but, still, a good piece. Very rare. EBC-. Denarius similar to the previous one. The main difference is in the legends of the obverse that say: SEX MAGN (VM) IMP SAL. The title of Magnus belongs to Sextus Pompey by inheritance right (of his father Pompey the Great). The abbreviated words IMP SAL can be interpreted as 'imperator salutatus', title that Sextus Pompey held. Given the precarious conditions in which these denarius were churned, it seems to us that the one we offer is a magnificent specimen of quality.
