Acuñaciones Cartaginesas en Sicilia. Tetradracma. 400-360 a.C. (Cy-1067). (S-6435 viariante). Anv.: Cabeza de Aretusa a izquierda peinada con espigas y rodeada de delfines. Rev.: Prótomo de caballo a izquierda, detrás palmera con frutos, debajo leyenda púnica. Ag. 16,82 g. Excelente estilo. Bellísimo ejemplar. EBC+. Est...3500,00. Precioso y deseable tetradracma púnico-siciliano que algunos autores afirman que fue acuñado en Entella, una antigua ciudad de la costa siciliana, donde hoy se encuentra un centro de excavaciones arqueológicas. Véase I. Lee, "Entella: la moneda de plata de los mercenarios de Campania y el sitio de la primera ceca cartaginesa 410-409 a.C." En anverso, Aretusa era, según la mitología griega, una náyade hija de un dios fluvial arcadio y conocida cazadora. Alfeo se enamoró perdidamente de ella, pero Aretusa, que se había prometido permanecer siempre virgen, pidió auxilio a su compañera Artemisa, que la transformó en corriente de agua para que huyera así de las solicitudes del dios. Cuando se vio totalmente acorralada, Aretusa dirigió su curso bajo el mar y apareció en la isla de Ortigia, generando el manantial que lleva su nombre, cerca de Siracusa. Aun así, el rio Alfeo quiso materializar su amor y por ello mezcló, desde entonces, sus aguas con las de la fuente Aretusa. La ninfa fue divinizada por los habitantes del lugar, que le dedicaron numerosa poesía bucólica y la representaron rodeada de delfines. El reverso, de origen africano, nos muestra la palmera y el caballo.

Estátera del tipo corintio, acuñada en Ambrakia, Epiro (importante colonia de Corinto, fundada hacia 660 a.C., llegó a ser la capital de Epiro bajo el reinado de Pirro (480-456 a.c.). En anvero Pegaso caminando a derecha sobre línea de exergo, A entre las patas. En reverso cabeza de Atenea a derecha con casco corintio, a la izquierda bajo la barbilla ¿tortuga y serpiente?, detrás Iachos niño con gorro frigio, desnudo, sentado y llevando antorcha encendida en la mano izquierda de la que sale una larga lengua de fuego. Iachos es el nombre solemne de Dioniso, el Dioniso frigio que fue visto en los misterios eleusinos como un niño, y como tal, se le describe como hijo de Deméter y Zeus. Su nombre se deriva de la bulliciosa canción festiva que también se llama Iacchus.
Se conocen media docena de estáteras con la imagen de Iachos niño tras la cabeza de Atenea, pero en todas ellas se encuentra en cuclillas y sin tan larga antorcha encendida. El elemento bajo la barbilla tampoco aparece en ellas. La esquematización de Iachos es de una gran plasticidad, parece estar saludando con la mano derecha. En cualquier caso nos encontramos ante un ejemplar ¿único? De una calidad óptima que hará las delicias del afortunado poseedor.

Stater, Corinthian type, minted in Ambrakia, Epirus (important colony of Corinth, founded around 660 BC., became the capital of Epirus under the reign of Pyrrhus (480-456 BC.). On the obverse, Pegasus flying right on line of exergue, A between the legs. On the reverse, head of Athena right, wearing Corinthian helmet, on the left and under the chin, turtle and snake??; behind, the child Iacchus with a Phrygian hat, naked, seated and carrying a lit torch in his left hand from which comes a long tongue of fire. Iacchus is the solemn name of Dionysus, the Phrygian Dionysus who was seen in the Eleusinian mysteries as a child, and as such, he is described as the son of Demeter and Zeus. His name is derived from the bustling festive song that is also called Iacchus. There are half a dozen little staters with the image of Iacchus as a child behind the head of Athena, but in all of them he is squatting and without such a long burning torch. The element under the chin does not appear in them either. The Iacchus schematization is of great plasticity, it seems to be waving with the right hand. In any case, we have a ‘unique’ (?) piece, with an optimum quality that will delight the fortunate owner.

Esta rara y escasa estátera nos muestra en anverso a Mitrídates VI ( (132 a.C. - 63 a.C.), llamado Eupator Dionysius, también conocido como Mitrídates el Grande, rey del Ponto desde el 120 a.C. hasta su muerte, en 63 a.C., en Asia Menor. Mitrídates VI fue uno de los enemigos más formidables y exitosos que tuvo Roma. Luchó consecutivamente, con tres de los más grandes generales de finales de la República: Sila, Lúculo y Pompeyo. La cabeza diademada a derecha con el cabello alborotado y libre. Interesante reverso lleno de mensajes; en el centro ciervo pastando a izquierda que probablemente representa el centro cívico de Éfeso, marca de la ceca de Pérgamo, que forma parte del nuevo reino del Ponto, simbolizado por la estrella y la media luna que se encuentran delante del cérvido; monograma (¿fecha?) a la derecha; encima atributos y nombre del monarca: BAΣIΛEΩΣ MIΘPAΔATOY EYΠATOPOΣ y monograma en el exergo; todo dentro de orla dionisiaca de hiedra y fruta. Sin duda una pieza llena de historia que hará las delicias de los coleccionistas del mundo griego.

This rare and scarce stater shows us Mithridates VI (132 BC - 63 BC) on the obverse, who was called Eupator Dionysius, also known as Mithridates the Great, King of Pontus from 120 BC until his death, in 63 BC, in Asia Minor. Mithridates VI was one of the most formidable and successful enemies that Rome had. He fought consecutively, with three of the greatest generals at the end of the Republic: Sila, Lucullus and Pompey. Diademed head right, with the hair disheveled and free.
