8 reales. 1813. Morelos. (Cal-570). (Km-238 rare, sin precio). Ag. 27,98 g. Plata cuñada. Rarísima. MBC. Est...3500,00.

ENGLISH: Felipe IV (1621-1665). 8 Escudos 1 (64) 9. Sevilla mint. R. (Cal-70). (Cal ounce-81). (Tauler-81a, same specimen). Au. 26.71 g. Little squares in the angles of the cross and roundels in the lobe angles. Big flan. Only one more specimen of this date is known. Very rare. Ex Oro Macuquino (gold cobs), lot 87. MBC. The State of Morelos was created by presidential decree on April 16, 1869; previously it was part of the State of Mexico. Thus, in the quinquennium, we are talking about (1811-1815), the current Morelos did not exist as such. The name of Morelos was named in honor of Mr. José María Morelos y Pavón, who was born in Valladolid (today Morelia), on September 30 of 1765 and executed in Ecatepec, on December 22, 1815. Called Servant of the Nation, he was a priest, Mexican patriot and revolutionary rebel leader, who organized and led the second part (1811-1815) of the Mexican War of Independence. There are 3 types of the 8 Reales of Morelos: those minted in copper; those of molten silver and those minted in silver. Of the latter are known specimens of 1811, 1812 and 1813. These silver coinages are the rarest and the most scarce, and those minted in 1813 even more scarce than the ones of 1812. The beautiful piece we offer here is from 1813, minted in silver. 1813 is a key year to understand this stage of the Mexican War of Independence, because, on November 6, 1813, it was signed the proclamation of the first agreement of Independence that Mexico had, and it was done by José María Morelos shortly after carrying out the first Congress of Anahuac (also called Congress of Chilpancingo, held on September 13, 1813) where the bases of the Mexican state were set down and also the document entitled 'Sentimientos de la Nacion' or 'Feelings of the Nation' was outlined. This document is part of this period and this is the first time that this nation proclaims itself independent.

8 reales. 1812. Oaxaca. (Cal-586). (Km-168). Ag. 26,49 g. León pequeño. Punzón con letra R en reverso. Magnífico ejemplar para esta rara moneda. EBC. Est...7000,00.

ENGLISH: Fernando VII (1808-1833). 8 reales. 1812. Oaxaca. (Cal-586). (Km-168). Ag. 26.49 g. Small lion variety. Countmark with letter R on the reverse. Extraordinary specimen for this rare coin. EBC. . This piece must be understood within an emergency situation in the middle of the riots of the War of Independence of Mexico. An unflawed and very attractive specimen of this cast necessity issue with bold features and free of the defects that frequently plague the few surviving pieces. Issued by General Antonio González Saravia in 1812 due to the lack of circulating media. Saravia, who was President of the Audiencia de Guatemala between 1801 and March 1811, was replaced by José de Bustamante y Guerra and summoned to present himself to the city of Mexico in order to take charge of the military forces of that viceroyalty. Nevertheless, he could not proceed further after reaching the city of Oaxaca due to the insecurity of the roads, many of which were under Insurgent control. On April 1812, Viceroy Venegas put him in command of the military defense of the Oaxacan province. The insurgent forces of Morelos finally took the city on November 25 of 1812, and Saravia was detained and finally shot on December 2 of that year. Given these so precarious circumstances, the rare cast 8 Reales issued under his authority while in command of Oaxaca are among the most iconic issues of the entire War of Independence series and rarely encountered in an attractive quality. We thus expect this well preserved piece to attract serious collector's interest.
