A la diosa Artemisa, hermana de Apolo, se le rendía en Éfeso un culto especial, Artemisa representa la fertilidad, diosa de la caza, de los animales salvajes, del terreno virgen, de los nacimientos, de la virginidad. En honor a ella se erigió, de grandes dimensiones y hermosa arquitectura, el Templo de Artemisa o Artemision, que pasó a ser una de las Siete Maravillas del Mundo Antiguo. Esta unión entre Éfeso y Artemisa se refleaj en las monedas. En el precioso tetradracma que presentamos, encontramos en anverso a la abeja, entre Ε y Φ, que, en la mitología griega, está asociada a la diosa Afrodita como símbolo de fecundidad. En reverso, prótomo de ciervo que simboliza la conexión de Artemisa como diosa de la caza y la palmera, con su fruto, que alude al lugar de nacimiento de Artemisa en la isla de Delos, donde, bajo una palma, la diosa Leto dio a luz a Artemisa y a su hermano Apolo, ante estas imágenes ΓΛΑΥΚΩΝ, nombre del magistrado responsable de esta acuñación.

To Goddes Artemis, sister of Apollo, was given a special cult in Ephesus . She represents fertility, goddess of the hunt, wild animals, virgin territory, childbirths, virginity. In her honor was erected the Artemis Temple or Artemison, of great dimenssions and gorgeous architecture; which turned to be one of the Seven Wonders of the Ancient World. This bond between Ephesus and Artemis are reflected in the coins. In this beautiful tetradrachma we are introducing, we can find on the obverse: The Bee, between the E and Φ which in the greek mithology it´s linked to the goddess Aphrodite as a symbol of fertility. On the reverse:protome of a deer which symbolizes the conexion of Artemis as hunt goddess and the palm with its fruit, in allusion to the birthplace of Artemis in Delos island, where goddess Leto gave birth to Artemis and her brother Apollo, under a palm tree. In front of these images ΓΛΑΥΚΩΝ, the name of the main burgess of this coinage. Description
