Aulo Hircio, político y militar romano, amigo personal de Julio César, podría haber terminado como su sucesor en el poder, si los acontecimientos hubieran tomado un giro diferente. Soldado experimentado, legado de César en la Galia desde aproximadamente el 54 a.C. Sirvió lealmente a César durante la Guerra Civil contra Pompeyo y sus sucesores 48-45 a.C. Tras el asesinato de César, Hircio apoyó inicialmente a Marco Antonio pero, tras asumir el cargo de cónsul en 43 a.C., formó un ejército contra Antonio y Octaviano. Su ejército derrotó a Antonio en Mutina en abril del 43 a.C., pero Hircio fue asesinado en la lucha, dejando a Octavio y Antonio amos de Roma. Debemos gratitud a Hircio pues guardó y editó los “Comentarios de César sobre las guerras gálicas y guerras civiles”. Estos áureos, con cabeza velada, resultan bastante enigmáticos, pues el rostro que aparece velado podría ser el de César por los rasgos varoniles que presenta. Estas acuñaciones se sabe que se usaron para pagar a los soldados de César después del gran desfile triunfal.

Aulus Hirtius: Julius Caesar´s loyal friend. Aulus Hirtius, politician and roman military, close friend to Julius Caesar, might have ended as his succesor to the throne, if the events had taken a different twist. Experimented soldier, legate of Caesar in the region of Galia from aproximately 54 B.C. He served Ceasar loyally during the Civil War against Pompey and his succesors 48-45 b.C. After Caesar´s assassination, Hirtius endorsed innitialy Mark Antony, but after he assumed the title of consul in 43 b.C., he raised an army against Antony and Octavianus. His army defeated Antony in Mutina on April 43b.C., but Hirtius was killed in the fight, leaving Octavius and Antony as the masters of Rome. We have to be grateful to Hirtius, as he kept and edited the "Bellum Galicum" and "Bello Civilii" (Comentaries on the Galic Wars and Civilian Wars). These aureus, with blurred head, are quite enigmatic, as the face that appears blurred might be Caesar´s due to the masculine features present. It is well known that these mintages were used to pay Caesar´s soldiers after the Great Triumphal March. Description
