Dated AH 163 (AD 779/80). bismillah kharaj sanat thalath wa sittin wa mi'at around Qurus / al-Thani in center. Cf Stephen Album Rare Coins 40 (13 May 2021), lot 294 for a comparable seal from Ma'arra. VF. Rare. This is a tax seal, confirming the payment of taxes at Qurus (the ancient Cyrrus, founded by Seleucus Nicator). The addition of al-Thani, 'the second', probably means that these were taxes paid for the second half of the year.

Al-Katib.The name on the reverse of this coin is that of Musa b. 'Isa, who held the governorship of Egypt on three occasions between AH 170-180. Bernardi records a single dinar dated AH 176 which bears Musa's name, held in the American Numismatic Society (ANS 1951.174.4), who apparently described it as a 'contemporary or modern counterfeit'. The present specimen is unquestionably genuine, and is thus the first confirmed dinar from the year AH 176 which names Musa.
