IONIA, Phokaia(?). Circa 600-550 BC. EL Myshemihekte – Twenty-fourth Stater (6.5mm, 0.56 g). Head of seal right / Incuse square with two bisecting lines with pellets at their ends. CNG E-355, lot 141; otherwise, unpublished in the standard references, but cf. Bodenstedt 2.2, dies b/ζ (= Weber 6068) for a 1/48 stater with a pellet in the incuse square. Laurate head of Apollo right / Homer seated left, resting chin on hand and holding scepter; ΘEOTIMOΣ and ΘE monogram to left. Milne, Autonomous, Perod X, 173; SNG Copenhagen –. Green-brown surfaces, roughness. VF. This type is often referred to as a 'Homereum,' based on a passage in Strabo's Geographica (xiv, i.37): "[T]he Smyrnaeans also lay especial claim to the poet [Homer] and indeed a bronze coin of theirs is called a Homereum."

Two conjoined, stylized serpents'(?) heads, with open jaws and lolling tongues / Single divided punch with volute designs. SNG Kayhan 1540–1; otherwise, unpublished in the standard references.
