[Ratto, R., Lugano]. Collection Claudius Côte de Lyon. Monnaies de Tarente de 550 à 209 av. J.-C.. (Paris, 28 January 1929). 4to., pp. (6), 42, (2); 611 lots, 19 fine plates. [With] [Feuardent, Mm., Leman, H. & Foury, P., Paris.] 4 December 1936. 8vo., pp. 22, (2); 125 lots (35 coins), 12 fine plates (2 of coins). Both catalogues in the original printed wrappers, the main sale with copious pencil annotations, primarily to the plates, noting prices realised and accompanied by numerous cuttings of other Tarentum coins taken from contemporary auction catalogues and tipped in. Occasional lots asterisked in red - presumably highlighting purchases from the sale. One manuscript page of notes and other papers laid in. From the library of German physician, Dr R. F. Burckhardt with his ex libris on the front pastedown. The second catalogue from the library of the same original collector, with prices realised and occasional notes in the same hand to the first plate of coins. Some shelf wear, front wrapper sunned but both sales internally clean. An intriguing copy of a major sale, especially interesting with the wealth of additional material and manuscript notes, as well as the lesser seen, later catalogue of additional coins. Both copies clearly belonging to a passionate and knowledgeable, albeit anonymous, contemporary collector. Clain-Stefanelli 2144. Grierson p. 281. Kroh p. 17, "611 lots of Tarentine staters, many of them excellent specimens." Spring 546 & 173, the main sale also listed under the "Most important sales of ancient Greek coins" .
