Gordian III. AD 238-244. AR Denarius (20mm, 3.80 g, 12h). Rome mint, 1st officina. 7th emission, AD 240. Laureate, draped, and cuirassed bust right / Diana Lucifera standing right, holding torch. RIC IV 127; RSC 69. Near EF, lustrous, edge split.Diana Lucifera, the Light-bearer, is a moon goddess. She appears on Roman issues as a young woman carrying a torch or wearing a crescent on her head.
Gordian III. AD 238-244. AR Denarius (19.5mm, 2.93 g, 6h). Rome mint, 3rd officina. 7th emission, mid AD 240. Laureate, draped, and cuirassed bust right / Securitas seated left on throne, holding scepter and resting head upon hand. RIC IV 130; RSC 340. EF, lustrous.
