Heraclius. 610-641. Æ 12 Nummi (23mm, 19.60 g, 6h). Alexandria mint. Struck 618-628(?). Draped facing bust (of Khosrau II?), wearing crown surmounted by cross within crescent; star to left, crescent to right / Large I B; cross potent on globe between; AΛEΞ. Bates, Copper issue UI; DOC 192; MIB 202a; SB 856. VF, brown surfaces.Although usually assigned to the Persian occupation of Egypt, Bates highlights a number of problems with such an attribution. He dismisses the interpretation of the crescent and star as specifically Persian, arguing that the symbols were ubiquitous in the ancient eastern Mediterranean.

Michael II the Amorian, with Theophilus. 820-829. Æ Follis (31mm, 7.23 g, 6h). Constantinople mint. Struck 821-829. Crowned facing busts of Michael, wearing chlamys, and Theophilus, wearing loros; cross above / Large M; cross above, X/X/X to left, N/N/N to right, Ө below. DOC 9; SB 1642. VF, green patina, pit on obverse, rough in areas.
Theophilus. 829-842. Æ Follis (23mm, 4.89 g, 6h). Uncertain provincial mint. Crowned half-length bust facing, holding labarum and globus cruciger / + ӨЄO/FILЄ AVG/OVSτЄ SV/ ҺICAS in four lines. DOC 17; SB 1685. VF, green patina, a few cleaning marks.This general type was struck in large numbers at Constantinople, but the somewhat clumsy engraving and exaggerated tufts of hair are more characteristic of a class that Grierson (DOC) thought to be minted at a provincial mint (see especially DOC 17.3 for similar obverse style).

Crowned and draped facing bust of Romanus, holding labarum-scepter and globus cruciger / +RωmA/Һ' ЄҺ ӨЄω ЬA/SILЄVS Rω/mAIωҺ in four lines. DOC 25a; SB 1760. VF, green patina, pitted in areas. Overstruck.
Anonymous Folles. temp. Romanus IV, circa 1068-1071. Æ Follis (24mm, 9.00 g, 6h). Class G. Constantinople mint. Facing bust of Christ Pantokrator / Facing bust of the the Virgin Mary, orans. DOC G.1-28; SB 1867. Near VF, green surfaces, cleaning marks.
Andronicus I Comnenus. 1183-1185. BI Aspron Trachy (29mm, 5.09 g, 6h). Constantinople mint. The Virgin Mary standing facing, holding bust of the Holy Infant / Andronicus standing facing, holding labarum and globus cruciger, being blessed by Christ. DOC 3b; SB 1985. VF, brown surfaces, reverse double struck. Well-struck obverse.
Andronicus III Palaeologus. 1328-1341. BI Tornese (17mm, 0.59 g). "Politikon" coinage. Constantinople mint. Four B's and four stars in angles of cross / Three-quarter length facing figures of Andronicus III and St. Demetrius. Cf. DOC 885 (for rev. type); cf. SB 2582-3/2570 (for obv./rev. types); CNG 82, lot 1158. VF, deposits. Very rare.
John III. Emperor of Trebizond, 1342-1344. Æ (15mm, 1.07 g, 6h). St. Eugenius standing facing, holding [long cross] / Basil standing facing, holding scepter and [globus]. Bendal 61; cf. Retowski 1; SB 2624. VF, brown surfaces, some roughness. Rare.
