Head of Helios facing slightly right / Rose; ΓOPΓOΣ above, bow and bowcase to lower left. For prototype issue, cf. Ashton 288. Good VF, toned.Ex Numismatica Ars Classica 78 (26 May 2014), lot 321.Imitations of Rhodian drachms of this type are quite common. While the present piece is of a known magistrate and symbol, the style is completely foreign to official Rhodian issues, and thus must be one of the imitations. Richard Ashton has written over a dozen articles on many of these, but the present variety has not yet been studied.
