Lykurgos, in his madness, killed his own son Dryas with an axe (believing he was cutting down a vine, hence the coin type), and then pruned the corpse of its nose, ears, fingers, and toes. Köln –; Dattari –; K&G 20.19; RPC II 2418.4 (this coin, illustrated); Emmett 211.2 (R5). Brown patina with some green, a few pits, edge splits. VF. Extremely rare, one of only five recorded by RPC.
