Desde 1808 y hasta 1814 (fecha efectiva de la marcha de las tropas francesas de Cataluña), se habían acuñado piezas en cobre, la gran mayoría de las acuñaciones son en este metal (4 Cuartos y divisores), plata (1, 2 ½ y 5 Pesetas) y oro (20 Pesetas). Los estilos de las piezas recuerdan claramente a las monedas francesas del Consulado y todas tienen en común el tener el escudo laureado de Barcelona en los reversos. La peseta se convierte, de este modo, en la moneda oficial catalana.
