Coinage of Ahmad ibn Qasi who, proclaiming himself Mahdi, ruled regions of the Algarve from AH 539 until his assassination by Almohad instigation in AH 546. The second area of the coin provides an unusual reading matter, showing an anonymous legend and the mention of the Mahdi, different from that expressed on Almohad coins.
