Taifa of Almeria. AH 433. Anonymous, minted by Ma'an ibn Sumadih. Al Andalus. Copper Dirhem. (Variant of V. 1042 and Prieto 356, for having mint and date). Irregular flan. The Taifa of Almeria fell to Abd al-Aziz of Valencia in AH 429/1037 A.D., but the effective government was held by the governor ibn Sumadih, who soon decided to suppress the name of the sovereign on the coins. In the "Suplemento" to Prieto's work, No. 136, "inner marginal legend" has been exchanged for "outer" and "1st area" for "2nd", Fontela Ballesta, whose article in GACETA NUMISMÁTICA 85 is cited as a reference, describes them correctly (see the comment on the mint in the previous lot). Extraordinary example, high quality silver. Extremely rare in this condition. 4,56 g. MBC+.
