Caliphate. AH 404. Sulayman (2nd reign). Al Andalus. Dinar. (V. 801) (Prieto 33). Obv.: @Ån. Rev.: @?cv! ®? / @{8z. This coin, although engraved in the name of Sulayman, was probably not minted directly under his authority but by one of the unknown figures whose name appears on the IA. As such, they should be considered, as Prieto does, more Taifa coins than Caliphate coins. We only know of one other dinar and two dirhems, the four correspond to different dies with floral ornaments of very different styles.. Extremely rare. 3,78 g. MBC.
Aureo & Calicó, S.L. - Auction 427 . 199
Caliphate. AH 401. Sulayman (2nd reign). Al Andalus. Dirhem. (V. 713) (Fro. 132 sim). Obv.: @{8z. Rev.: @?cv! ®?. The poor minting and horrible calligraphy of Sulayman's coins for AH 401 is probably due to the sudden loss of his mint with the looting and destruction of Medina Azahara by his own disgruntled troops the previous year. Perhaps because of this, Prieto (no. 49) assumes several Sulayman pieces of this period to be fake, surprisingly, he catalogs them as "false dinar", an obvious error. Extremely rare. 3,54 g. MBC+.

Caliphate. AH 405. Sulayman (2nd reign). Al Andalus. Dirhem. (V. 797) (Prieto 28d). Obv.: }{êwI. Rev.: @?cv! ®? / @{8z.For this piece and the following one, the references of Vives and Prieto, as they appear in the Tonegawa Collection, seem to us to be erroneous: there is the type with the name of ibn Khalaf on obverse iw; }&, but this is not the one that appears on the coin presented here. We believe that only Medina (last line on page 147) mentions this unknown coin. ?D? }&! (?). Very rare. 2,91 g. MBC+.
