Provisional Government (1868-1871) Category
Provisional Government (1868-1871). 5 pesetas. 1869*18-69. Madrid. SNM. (Cal-38). Ag. 24,85 g. Extremely rare. Ex Áureo, lot 1020, 16/10/1996. On 6th of November of 1868, the Royal Academy of History, issues a brief in which decides that the figure of Hispania is the one to be depicted on the coins, as a response to the European tendency of the Provisional Goverment to adapt the metric of the new founded "Union Monetaria Latina" (UML). - The UML was created with the intention to unify different European currencies in one common, which could be used by all country members. It was stablished in 1865 and disappeared in 1927.- Countries like the UK had already minted with the Britannia allegory as well Switzerland had with Helvetia.                                                                                                                                                 This coin (duro) matches with the adoption of a new monetary system, which will have the Peseta as a base, introduced on October 6th of 1869 according to one of the most important monetary laws of all times. The Provisional Government announced a tender through the Finance Ministry, Mr. Laureano Figuerola; to adopt the design of the new coins. Luis Marchioni, the official engraver of the "Casa de La Moneda", whose initials "LM" appears at the bottom of the allegory, was the suitable responsible for this new design, inspired in a coin of Adriano. At the very beginning of the year 1869 the coining of the "duro" was undertaken. Almost XF. Est...30000,00.

Spanish Description: Gobierno Provisional (1868-1871). 5 pesetas. 1869*18-69. Madrid. SNM. (Cal-38). Ag. 24,85 g. Ejemplar muy digno para esta mítica pieza. Extremadamente rara. EBC-. Est...30000,00.
