SC. (Ex Senatus Consultor, “por orden del Senado”)

Nero Augustus. Aureus. 54-68 AD. Rome. (Calicó-399). (Ric-1). (BMC-6). Anv.: AGRIPP AVG DIVI CLAVD NERONIS CAES MATER. Confronted busts of Nero, bare-headed right, and Agrippina Minor, draped left. Rev.: NERONI CLAVD DIVI F CAES AVG GERM IMP TR P, around oak wreath, enclosing EX SC. Au. 7,61g. Two marvellous portraits well struck in high relief. Extremely rare. EBC.

At the beginning of his mandate, Nero was very protected and subordinated by his mother Agrippina, who exercised regency over him and this was reflected in the coins. The aureus that we present, the first of the mother-son coinage, provoked, by the closeness of both fronted faces, that the people would think that mother and son are about to kiss each other; the rumors were so overwhelming about the seduction that Agrippina exercised over her adolescent son, that Nero, to avoid jokes at his expense, in later coinage changed the disposition of the faces (overlapping faces), Nero and behind Agrippina. On reverse oak wreath, enclosing EX. SC. (Ex Senatus Consultor, "by order of the Senate")

Vespasian. Sestertius. 71 AD. Rome. (Ric-108). (Ch-404). Anv.: IMP CAESAR VESPASIANVS AVG PM TR P COS III. Vespasian laureate bust right, wearing aegis. Rev.: SC / ROMA. Roma seated right on the seven hills of Rome, propping head on hand and holding parazonium; to left, she-wolf and twins; to right, the River Tiber reclining left, holding reed. Ae. 25,77 g. Extremely rare. EBC.

The aegis, with the head of Medusa, protects Vespasian from his naked torso; the aegis, was a symbol of invulnerability guaranteed by the gods. On the reverse, Rome could never have been better represented than in this extraordinary Vesperian sestertius, which shows the homonym Dea Roma, with sceptrum, reclining on the seven hills of Rome, with the god of the river Tiberis at her feet, and at her side the she-wolf suckling Romulus and Remus. This coin was strike to celebrate the resurrection of Rome because it had suffered a lot with the civil war (68-69 AD), but it came out victorious under the leadership of Vespasian. No more than six known pieces. In this quality, it is worthy to be part of the best collections of sestertius.
