Carlos III (1759-1788). Medalla de proclamación. 1759. Madrid. (Vq-13011). (H-24). (Vives-28). Anv.: CAROLVS III BORBONIVS REX CATHOLICVS. Busto laureado del rey a derecha. Rev.: ACCLAMATIO AVGVSTA.

Of this medal, 29 specimen in gold and 423 in silver were made and delivered among several European dignitaries as political propaganda because of the proclamation of the new king. Ordered by Ms. Elisabeth Farnese (mother of the king) to the designer Mr. Pedro Rodríguez of Campomanes, they were carried out by Mr. Tomás Francisco Prieto, the king’s engraver. According to a study of Marina Cano Cuesta, in 1774, Charles III requested to make 24 more specimen in silver, that due to the modifications that had to be made in the dies, it became in to a brand new medal with several differences over the original. So we are facing one of the few known specimen of this nice proclamation medal.
